Best Keto Coffee

coffee beans

Coffee has become a staple drink in most people’s morning routine. The smell of freshly roasting coffee in the morning is one of the reasons I go to bed at night! Freshly ground coffee beans make that first pot of coffee in the morning even better.

Coffee is one of the drinks that supports a Ketogenic Lifestyle. The way it is prepared is the key.

Let’s get started.

The Beans

The most important part of the entire process is picking the coffee beans. There are as many options for beans as there are people who drink coffee. There are organic beans, non gmo beans, dark beans, flavoured beans, decaffeinated beans, and the list could go on and on.

You need to find a brand or flavour that you like, and that keeps you coming back for more.

My favourites are Maple flavoured or French Vanilla flavoured coffee beans. They are usually available at Costco for a reasonable price, but are also available on Amazon.

Why Coffee Beans?

I choose coffee beans over grounds because the grinding of the beans adds that additional aroma. The aroma of fresh ground coffee beans is the ultimate antecedent to a great cup of coffee. Seeing the beans in the grinder, smelling the fresh ground flavour, and then listening as the hot water cascades through the freshly ground coffee beans makes the anticipation for the coffee greater than ever.

Of course, using coffee beans adds another step to the process, but that step can be easily taken care of with a coffee maker that has a bean grinder built in. I gave one of these to my wife for a birthday present last year. It is a Cuisinart that has a Burr Grinder built in. We enjoy several fresh pots of coffee each day from this machine.

If you would rather use coffee grounds, that is perfectly fine! The idea of this post is to enlighten you on how to turn your everyday coffee into Keto Coffee, so let’s get at it!

What Makes A Coffee A Keto Coffee?

Once again, remember that the goal of a ketogenic lifestyle is to stay in that fat burning state known as ketosis. This is when your body is burning fat for the fuel it needs to function on a daily basis. Our goal is to consume 70% to 80% of our calories as healthy fats.

Your brain needs fat to function properly. In fact, your brain functions best when you give it fat as a fuel.

So, the best way to turn your coffee into a Keto Coffee, is to add healthy fats. Dairy is the best and easiest way to do this. You can add milk, or 10% cream, or 35% Whipping Cream, or butter to your coffee.35% cream

Butter? Yes, butter.

Butter has become a popular additive to coffee. Perhaps you have heard of Bulletproof Keto Coffee? Butter is the main additive to Bulletproof Coffee, and it is wildly popular and successful. My wife added butter to her coffee at the beginning of our Keto journey, and it assisted in her body transformation (she lost over 40 pounds!).

I prefer 35% whipping cream in my coffee. I drink around 6 or 7 cups of coffee each day, and add 35% whipping cream to each cup. Delicious. My wife uses 10% table cream. The preference is yours. The better the source of fat, the better it will be in your journey to health.

If you have a local source of grass-fed dairy products, you should take advantage of that. If you don’t, that’s not a problem. Just remember that the greater the fat content in your coffee, the further you are along the journey to calorie intake through healthy fats.

And if you want to put butter in your coffee, go for it. A hand held blender is very helpful in mixing the butter into the coffee.

Now let’s talk about other additives.

The Other Stuff

Let’s start with the sweet stuff. One of the keys to losing weight and staying in ketosis, is to avoid sugar. You must avoid sugar as much as you possibly can. Your body reacts to sugar the exact same way it does to carbohydrates. Your body turns the sugar into fat. So much fat that you cannot possibly use it all for energy. The excess fat gets stored in your body.

It is not eating fat that makes us fat. It is eating carbohydrates and sugar that makes us fat.

So start by finding a sugar substitute that you enjoy, that is naturally sourced from a non-sugar cane plant, and put it in your coffee. If you enjoy flavoured coffee, there are flavoured sugar substitutes that are very tasty.

Another additive that is super healthy and will assist in keeping you in ketosis is Exogenous Ketones. You can get them in a variety of flavours (I prefer chocolate) and are powdered. Again, the hand blender will assist in mixing the powder into the coffee.

The key is to find a way to add healthy fats to your coffee that you enjoy. This will keep you coming back for more.

Perfect Keto Coffee

Is there such a thing as the perfect keto coffee? I would say yes. The perfect keto coffee is the coffee that you finally decide is the one you love. It will have healthy fats and it will assist in your weight loss.

We can’t forget the benefits of caffeine. Drinking coffee will help keep you going to accomplish all you need to get done throughout the day. So, drink up! Enjoy!

See you in the next post.best keto coffee

Have a great day!
